Pune: The deadline to apply for property tax exemptions is June 30.

Abhay Shah - April 4, 2023

PUNE: The deadline for making discounted property tax payments has been extended by the local government. If diligent property owners pay the tax before June 30 as opposed to the previous deadline of May 31, they will receive a discount.

Tax debtors will also be given an additional month to pay their debts. The tax payment deadline for the fiscal year 2022–2023 is April 30.

“The state government has decided to provide self-occupied properties a 40% tax break. But, the city government has not yet received a thorough notification of it.

The distribution of tax bills may be delayed as a result, thus more time has been allowed to pay the tax at a reduced rate “Vikram Kumar, the chief executive officer of the Pune Municipal Council, said (PMC).

In 2022–2023, the civic authority received Rs 2,000 crore in property taxes. “Revenue has increased as a result of a recovery-focused approach and the discovery of properties outside the tax net. The department has never made more money than this “Ajit Deshmukh, director of the PMC’s property tax division, said.

In the previous year, PMC added about 65,000 new properties to its tax net, bringing in about Rs 400 crore. According to civic officials, the extension will significantly affect income because between 50% and 55% of the owners of the 12 lakh homes covered by PMC must make payment by May 31. The proportion can increase following the extension.

In the lack of an amnesty plan for the fiscal years 2023–24, a senior PMC official stated that “the extension will be crucial to encourage taxpayers.”
