The civic body took to the digital platform to issue property tax bills for the new fiscal (2020-21) after the current lockdown hindered it from printing and dispatching more than 10.5 lakh of them.

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has now begun uploading the bills to the property tax payment network that can be accessed through the website of the civic body. The PMC suggested that by visiting www.punecorporation.org or propertytax.punecorporation.org a property owner can access his/her tax bill.

The administration intended to submit the bills to the respective property owners along with SMS alerts on their phone numbers and on their registered e-mail addresses. A civic official said the printed bills would only be distributed after the lockdown ends. According to the data, the PMC has email addresses of more than 7.5 lakh property owners and so far about 9 lakh have provided their mobile numbers.

An official from the property tax department said, “Every year in the first week of April the physical copies of the bills are dispatched.

Under this difficult circumstance, the administration was not willing to print and distribute the bills. We are also making extensive plans for citizens to assess their property tax amount for the year 2020-21.

“In order to get their bill information via the online system, the property owners would have to follow a few easy steps. There are also functional online payment gateways. If the whole property tax is paid in one go, the civic body gives 5-10% discount on general tax. We don’t want people to miss on the discount that can be used until May 31,” the official added.

The property tax department said in their online program it has uploaded the fresh demands for fiscal 2020-21. Upon logging into the system, the property owner will be able to obtain details of the property tax payable for the current year.

Administrative sources said a large number of citizens were now opting for online tax payment options and the majority will probably not encounter any obstacles.
