On 26 June 2019, Maharashtra government said, The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) will perform a structural audit of bridges constructed by the local civic body in Mumbai in the last five years. The government announced in the Legislative Council the audit of the Mumbai bridges carried out by CAG, which were later reported because of faulty work. Yogesh Sagar, State Minister of Urban Development said: “The CAG will examine bridge-building in Mumbai. A timeframe for the CAG audit will be established of the structures built for bridges over the past five years.

The government also assured the upper house that modern technology would serve to build new bridges in the financial capital, which have seen falls in the last few years with foot over bridges (FOBs). Devendra Fadnavis Chief Minister said “We are going to build new bridges with latest technologies. Modern methods have already been started in use for inspecting existing bridges.”

Dhananjay Munde, Leader of Opposition, posed a starred question about the bridge situation in Mumbai. “Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) commissioner and chief engineer are liable for the crash of the (CSMT) bridge. Stern intervention against them should take place,” Munde requested. In his response, Fadnavis said, “Action will only be launched after somebody has been found guilty of the default.” With the Indian Railways, the Chief Minister retained that the MMRDA (Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority) and the BMC have conducted bridge checks within their competence.
