CM of Maharashtra announces 300 km of metro in two years

Abhay Shah - February 7, 2023

THANE: According to chief Eknath Shinde, about 300 km of metro network lines will be operationalized over the next 1.5 to 2 years, and the state will soon begin construction on line 3.

Shinde was speaking to a crowd of attendees at a cultural event in Thane that was organized over the weekend by party colleague and MLA Pratap Sarnaik.

“We are working to reduce the problems caused by road traffic in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), and after Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated two metro lines last week, we are working to finish construction on nearly 300 km of this region’s metro network, which will be operational in the next two years. Additionally, construction on line 3 will shortly begin “Shinde said.

The chief minister expressed his confidence that nearly 60 lakh private vehicles would be removed from Mumbai’s roads as a result of drivers having a comfortable alternative to travel by utilizing the extensive metro system, which will not only save them time and fuel but also contribute to lowering pollution levels.

Another project that will improve connectivity, according to him, is the tunnel road that connects Borivali and Thane.

“We are already working to make the trip for drivers between Thane and Mumbai better. The local corporation and MMRDA have been asked to reduce congestion at crucial crossroads in addition to the Rs 7,000 crore road concretizing work in Mumbai. This will be helpful for Mumbai commuters traveling outside the metropolitan area who are currently impacted by the congestion on Thane streets “11, he added.

On a brighter note, Shinde revealed how Sarnaik had been able to secure sanctions for every development project totaling more than RS 900 crore in his district during their journey to Guwahati.

“At that time, I only signed on the dotted line. Although the funding would be made available in installments over the following few years, it is perhaps the greatest amount that has ever been approved for any MLA in the state all at once “said Shinde.
