AHMEDABAD: If your built property or illegal extension is on the civic body’s demolition list, you may find it difficult to register the property’s sale deed.

On Thursday, Municipal Commissioner M Thennarasan shot off a circular to authorities of all municipal zones – such as estate officers -prescribing a standard operating process (SOP) of action to be taken against illegal structures in the city.

Officials from the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) have been directed to notify the relevant sub-registrar in order to avoid registering the sale deed of any illegal property.

“The removal of unauthorized structures in the city has been prioritized in four stages. Unauthorized commercial complexes will be demolished, as will parking, lots, and structures built on common plots, as well as any unauthorized construction in non-residential areas “According to the circular.

The TDOs have been directed to begin issuing notices and approaching local police for bandobast to assist in carrying out the demolitions within the time frame specified.

“If an unauthorized construction is sealed and the seal is broken, the engineering department should file a police complaint and the process of disconnecting sewer, water, and electricity connections should be completed as soon as possible,” the circular continues.

During the process, Thennarasan insisted on publicizing the unauthorized construction in order to prevent people from purchasing it. According to Thennarasan’s circular, AMC officials must separately notify the sub-office registrar so that the illegal property is not registered.

In addition to the survey work being done in the city, Thennarasan has stated in the circular that a fortnightly meeting will be held where pictures of illegal constructions and the status of police bandobast will be shared.
Minor violations involving balconies, building margins, or any construction for improvement in bungalows, tenements, or flats will be prioritized fourth, according to the circular.
