The government provides approval for construction of about 1.4 lakh more houses under PMAY (U).

On Thursday the centre approved the construction of nearly 1.4 lakh more homes under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, which would take more than 85 lakh houses to be built under this scheme.

The Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry said that the approval of this decision was provided by HUA Secretary Durga Shanker Mishra at the 45th Meeting of the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (CSMC). It indicated that approximately 140,134 more affordable houses construction were sanctioned for the benefit of the urban poor.

Approval was provided to 54,277 houses to Uttar Pradesh, followed by Gujarat (26,183), Assam (9,328), Maharashtra (8,499), Chhattisgarh (6,507), Rajasthan (4,947) and Haryana (3,808) while West Bengal got approval for 26,585 houses construction under PMAY (U). The declaration added that Rs 6,642 crore will cost for a total of 492 projects, from which the Center has approved Rs 2,102 crore as financial assistance.
