In January, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will conduct a lottery under Pradhan Mantri Aawas Yojana to allot some 2,200 homes. It would be the first lottery for homes under this scheme in areas such as Vadgaon, Hadapsar and Kharadi, by Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).

“The municipal government has completed the construction authorization process. Several projects on the field have begun. The beneficiaries will now get the apartments. After the lottery, the allocation process will be done,” said Rajendra Raut, the PMC’s superintending engineer of building permission department.

Raut said in a month the lottery will take place. It would be instructed to pay for the homes by the chosen applicants. The raised funds would be used to finance the projects.

Under Prime Minister Aawas Yojana (PMAY), the civic body plans to build a minimum of 6,500 homes. Also, in collaboration with private builders, another 8,000 houses would be constructed.

In order to look after the construction of houses under the PMAY, it has appointed a private consulting firm. The consulting firm would charge 1.56% of the total project cost.

The consulting would be responsible for monitoring the quality of the structure and raw materials, structural integrity and other key factors for the projects.

PMAY has been initiated by the Union government to provide homes to the needy.
