PMAY-U 2.0 Approvals Take Urban Housing Sanctions to 18.77 Lakh

New Delhi: The Centre has approved a fresh set of urban housing proposals under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban 2.0, taking the total number of houses sanctioned under the scheme to 18.77 lakh. The approvals were cleared during a meeting of the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (CSMC) under PMAY-U 2.0. The newly sanctioned houses are spread across six states, adding to the housing projects already approved under the scheme. PMAY-U 2.0 is the Centre’s current urban housing programme aimed at assisting eligible families in meeting their housing needs. Depending on the applicable component, beneficiaries can receive support for constructing, purchasing or securing affordable housing.

The latest approvals expand the number of projects that can now move towards implementation. Their progress will depend on subsequent stages, including project execution, construction and delivery of completed homes to eligible beneficiaries.

The programme has been designed to address housing requirements in urban areas through a combination of government assistance and participation by states, urban local bodies and other implementing agencies.
