Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s (PCMC) property tax department raised Rs 198 crore tax via the online payment system, making up the largest portion of Rs 490.11crore’s overall property tax collection for fiscal 2019-20.

Smita Zagade, Assistant Commissioner, said this represents the increasing demand for online payment methods. The tax was paid online by owners of 1.60 lakh properties.

The second-largest portion of Rs 159 crore annual property tax income was collected from 34,620 properties by cheques.

The tax of 396 properties was paid by Demand Drafts (DD) amounting to Rs 12.21 crore. The tax of 266 properties was paid through NEFT in the amount of Rs 5.57 crore and 52 properties via RTGS in the sum of Rs 9.79 crore.

Only Rs 97.46 crore of property tax was collected by the civic body via cash, accounting for 19.88% of overall annual property tax collection.

A total of 5.27 lakh properties, including 4.47 lakh residential properties, have paid tax on this fiscal year. The 2019-20 annual property tax collection is Rs 490.11 crore higher than the 2018-19 annual property tax collection which was Rs 472.10 crore.
