The Mussoorie –Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) will build a housing complex of more than 400 flats for the lower income group and economically weaker sections in Dhaulas. Dhaulas lies in the outskirts of the Dehradun line and it has been already identified and transferred to MDDA by the state government. A Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the housing complex is with the development authority and the ministry of DDA.

The development authority aims to complete the project by 2020. MDDA superintendent engineer Sanjeev Jain told, “The housing complex will have around 250 flats for EWS families and 150 for middle income families. The EWS families who will be allocated houses have been identified.”

The flats built for EWS families will cost less than Rs 6 lakh. Middle income families will have to shell out more but the selling price has not been decided yet.

MDDA officials said that the flats would be built using Monolithic Aluminium Concrete technology which uses an aluminium plastic composite to casting walls, floors, slabs etc. The officials said that the new technology is faster and would bring down the project completion date by a year.

Local residents said that the initiative was good but the authorities should first ensure that flats built under other government projects are allocated to families.

The residents have refused to move in claiming that there are around 2,500 of them while only 150 homes have been built.
