On 24 February, the city police registered an FIR against five real estate developers, including a member of the Bharatiya Janata Group MP, following complaints from Gurugram’s District Town and Country Planning (DTCP) Department. These developers couldn’t provide the residents with basic amenities.

R.S. Baat, DTCP head, said the FIRs were registered in violation of section 10 of Haryana Development and Regulation of Urban Area Act, 1975.

Gurugram ACP, Preet Pal Singh Sangwan, said FIRs were filed against Sheetal International Pvt Ltd, Satsudha Investment Pvt Ltd, North Start Apartment Pvt Ltd, New India City Developers Pvt Ltd and Ajay Apex Pvt ltd under relevant sections of the IPC.

“Mayfield Garden was partially developed with 13 blocks spread over 327.73 acres in sector 51. In addition, they also developed residential societies in sector 50 and 57 and not only delayed possession, but they also provided buyers with semi-developed flats,” says Baat.

“The irregularities of these developers have affected approximately 20,000 families living in these societies,” he says.

Satbir Thakran, President of RWA Mayfield Garden, one of the complainants, said that we paid our hard-earned money, but that the builders were unable to offer basic infrastructural resources such as power supply, community centres, roads and sewerage systems. “The inhabitants had to collect money to get water and electricity and sewerage connections installed,” Thakran said.

“In 2012 Mayfield Garden was inspected by the Haryana Lokayukta, which led the DTCP to ensure developers developed the society properly. But the builders overlooked the Lokayukta directions following which the DTCP cancelled its completion certificate,” said Thakran.
