The deadline for filing property tax has been extended by one month to 31 January. “People who haven’t filed the property tax can deposit it and get a 10% tax rebate. Defaulters properties will be sealed and later auctioned when they fail to pay property taxes on time.” said, MCG Chief Vinay Pratap Singh.

Property tax can be done online on the website of MCG or at the Sector 34 MCG offices opposite to Civil Hospital and the Sector 42 community centre.

The Haryana Municipal Corporation Act, 1994, specifies for vacant plots and all kinds of complexes to be subject to property tax. A tax of 18% is charged every year in the event that it is not filed. The MCG has sent 253 notices so far and has recovered Rs 1.2 crore from defaulters.

“We still have Rs 90 crore to recover,” said one official of MCG who added that the majority of defaulters are builders. When dues are not paid even if the property is sealed defaulters will get a 15 days’ time, after which their properties will be auctioned.
