BMC Assistant engineer got arrested – CSMT Bridge Collapse.

A foot over bridge close to Mumbai’s landmark  Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus railway station fallen on Thursday evening 15th March, killing six individuals and harming 33. The over bridge was under fix however it was still being used. The breakdown occurred around 7.30 pm – the busiest hours of the night when footfall was at its most elevated. The Railway Ministry has said the over bridge was under the control of Mumbai’s civic body, the Brihanmumbai Corporation – Sena administrator Anil Desai has denied the case.

As of now, 3 people of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) official has been arrested, by the Mumbai Police.  With less than 1 month after the collapse of foot-over-bridge near Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) railway station, the Mumbai Police has been so far reached to arrest three officials.

Anil Patel who was working in the bridge department from Sept 2014 to Dec 2018 will be produced in the court on Wednesday. Reportedly, he is accused under section 304A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code.

A starter report into the breakdown put together by the BMC said that the basic review of the foot over bridge at CSMT railway station in south Mumbai was not done effectively. It recommended real slips by when the auxiliary review of the FOB was completed on August 13, 2018.

Police said “They have captured the structural auditor Neerajkumar Desai. His firm, DD Desai’s Associated Engineering Consultant and Analysts Pvt Ltd had pronounced the scaffold ok for use in spite of some erosion in the structure”.

Currently, the foot-over-bridge of CSMT platform number 1 is now closed for everyone as the renovation work is going on until April 26.
