E-registration of new real estate units is gaining traction in Maharashtra.

PUNE: Developers in Maharashtra are increasingly registering first-sale units online through their respective offices.

The number of such developers has increased from 129 in December 2022 to 170 this month. The system, which saves developers and home buyers from visiting sub-registrar offices to register properties, is gaining popularity not only in Pune, Mumbai, and Thane but also in districts such as Nagpur, Amravati, Akola, Sangli, Solapur, Kolhapur, according to the deputy inspector general of registration (IT) Deepak Sonawane.

“Our objective is to ensure that at least 25-30% of first-sale registrations are completed at the developers’ offices,” he told TOI, contributing that 3,000 of the 15,000 first-sale units registered with the dept would be completed at the developers’ offices.

He stated that the department has raised awareness about the e-registration process and has trained developers on it. Six officers have been selected to promote and expedite the e-registration scheme, which was launched in October 2021.

According to a property registration official, 170 developers are currently using the software from their offices to register nearly 8,500 units.

Ranjit Naiknavare, vice president of Credai-Pune, told TOI that the e-registration system was up and running. “We hope to involve all of our Pune members in the process within the upcoming 3 to 6 months,” he said. There are 450 regular members in Pune-CREDAI (metro).

“The system saves time for property buyers because they are not required to visit registration offices,” said advocate Amitabh Mehta, who has assisted citizens with the e-registration process.
