Prime Minister speaks about the rapid construction of PMAY houses during the pandemic period.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated on Saturday that the average housing construction time for the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY-Gramin) were 45 to 60 days against 125 days at the time of the pandemic, as migrant workers returned home during lock-down and contributed towards it.

He said that under the PMAY, during the coronavirus phase, 18 lakh house was built in the country. Modi also proposed that the poor be supported to end poverty.

He talked at the virtual housewarming ceremony in Madhya Pradesh of 1.75 houses built under PMAY scheme in the rural area of Madhya Pradesh.

“These houses were constructed at a record pace, as the PMAY house was built an average of 125 days before. But, during the time of the coronavirus, the average time taken for the buildings was about 45 and 60 days. This is an example of turning a crisis into an opportunity,” he said.

“It has become possible as Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyaan, where Rs 23,000 crore is spent on infrastructure and other works, has joined in with migrants who returned to their home during the coronavirus-induced lockdown,” he said.

Migrants returned home, got work during the campaign, and the expenses also supported construction-related business, he said.
