The Government has approved the construction of 16,488 new homes under PMAY-Urban.
According to a statement, the government approved the building of 16,488 homes in urban areas under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana on Monday, bringing the total number of units sanctioned to more than 1.13 crore.
According to the Union Housing and Urban Affairs (HUA) Ministry, the decision was made at a meeting of the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (CSMC), which was attended by officials from four states and union territories.
The dwellings authorized at the meeting on Monday are to be built under PMAY-U Beneficiary-Led Construction (BLC) and Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP) verticals.
“The demand for sanction has saturated across all States/UTs, and work should be done swiftly towards finishing all the projects within the specified period,” HUA Secretary Durga Shanker Mishra said while addressing the attendees.
The ministry stated in the statement that the building of PMAY-U homes is in various phases.
“With this, the total number of sanctioned homes under PMAY-U has now reached 113.06 lakh, of which 85.65 lakh have been grounded for construction and more over 51 lakh have been finished and given to the beneficiaries,” it stated.
The secretary also invited states and union territories to engage actively in the ‘PMAY(U) Awards -100 Days Challenge,’ according to the release.
“Our primary focus should be on how states/UTs can make their cities more densely populated. Project completion should be a goal.” According to the statement, he said.
Regarding Light House Projects (LHPs), Mishra stated that states and union territories should encourage a large number of stakeholders to register as “Technograhis” so that they may learn about internationally new technologies and adapt their usage to the Indian environment.
