Pune Municipal Corporation Pushes for 15 Government Land Parcels to Drive Key Projects

Abhay Shah - January 22, 2025

PUNE: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has requested the allocation of 15 government land parcels from the state government to expedite several delayed projects.

According to the civic administration, the timely allocation of these land parcels could accelerate initiatives like the 24×7 water supply scheme, road widening at Mundhwa, and the development of a playground in Shivajinagar.

“A significant number of projects are stalled due to the unavailability of land,” stated a senior civic official.
The pending projects include the construction of water tanks in Bavdhan and Mhalunge, road development in Kothrud and Ambegaon, road widening in Bhamburde and two areas in Mundhwa, the creation of a sports ground in Shivajinagar, riverbank beautification in Sangamwadi, and the provision of land for a railway overbridge in Ghorpadi, PMC officials disclosed.

Since the government land falls under the jurisdiction of the district collector, PMC is required to submit a detailed proposal for the intended development work.

The district administration then seeks input from various departments, such as the forest department and other local self-governing bodies. Upon receiving feedback, the land in question is surveyed, and its market value is determined.

The civic administration is obligated to pay the assessed amount based on the government rates.
Civic officials revealed that PMC would require approximately ₹25 crore to acquire the 15 government land parcels.

The procurement of the land has already received approval from the standing committee and the general body meeting.
