The Delhi civic authority will no longer accept checks for the payment of property taxes as of July 1.

NEW DELHI: Due to the problem of unpaid checks, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) announced on Wednesday that it will stop accepting property tax payments by check as of July 1.

According to a statement from the civic authority, property taxes would need to be paid digitally starting next month via UPI, wallets, demand drafts, pay orders, or any online payment portal.

“Due to legal issues stemming from dishonored cheques, property tax payments through this method will be discontinued starting in July,” the statement said.

In addition, the MCD made a plea to building and land owners who are not yet occupied to pay taxes for 2024–25 and receive a 10% refund on lump sum payments made by June 30th.

Property owners or occupiers can visit www.mcdonline.nic.in to pay their taxes.

Property tax is due on all buildings and undeveloped land under the Delhi Municipal Corporation’s authority, according to section 114 of the Delhi Municipal Corporation (Amendment) Act, 2003.
