Pune metro’s Swargate-Katraj extension has been approved by the state government.
The Pune Metro’s Swargate-Katraj extension project was approved by the state government on April 20. It will be 5.4km underground, with three proposed stations, and will be built by MahaMetro.
After receiving a detailed project report from MahaMetro, the Pune Municipal Corporation submitted a proposal to the state government. The project will now be submitted to the Union government. If approved, the project’s deadline is set for April 2027.
MahaMetro is already building the PCMC-Swargate line, which includes an underground section between Shivajinagar and Swargate. Padmavati, Gultekdi, Market Yard, Dhankawdi, Bibvewadi, Balajinagar, Sainathnagar, Katraj, and Ambegaon residents are expected to benefit from the new line.
The project is worth Rs3,668 crore. The state government will contribute Rs891 crore, PMC will contribute Rs655 crore, and the state will seek Rs300 crore from the Centre. Soft loans will be used to raise Rs1,803 crore for MahaMetro.
According to PMC sources, the civic administration has submitted extension proposals to MahaMetro and the state government. During the pandemic, a general body meeting approved the Swargate-Katraj proposal.
“The state government’s approval is appreciated,” a MahaMetro official said. The proposal must go through several levels of approval and technical nods at the Centre. We are eager to assist in any way we can. “Only after all necessary approvals have been obtained will actual work begin,” the official added.
