South Delhi announces tax exemption for residents of the illegal colonies.
An amnesty scheme has been declared by South Delhi Municipal Corporation to provide relief for inhabitants of unauthorized colonies. SDMC Mayor Sunita Kangra clarified that, under the terms of the scheme, the unpaid tax in respect of residential property in unauthorized colonies would be exempted from payment by paying just the current year’s tax.
“In the case of non-residential properties in such colonies, if the homeowner pays the remaining property tax for the financial years 2017-18, 2018-19 and 2019-20, his property tax arrears would be exempted for the intervening period,” she added.
The scheme would only be in operation until 31 March. Kangra added that in association with the respective councilors, the property tax department of all four zones would hold special camps in these colonies.
The mayor said residential landowners will have to pay property tax for the current financial year (2019-20) in this scheme, so the whole due property tax since 2004 would be waived off.
“Non-residential or commercial property owners will be charged property tax from the fiscal year 2016-17 and they will have to pay the property tax over the previous three years,” she added.
