Kamathipura Redevelopment Moves Into Implementation Phase

Mumbai: The redevelopment of Kamathipura has moved into the implementation stage after MHADA signed a Construction and Development Agency agreement on September 17, 2026.

The project covers about 34 acres across Lanes 1 to 15 and is being executed as an integrated cluster redevelopment under Regulation 33(9) of DCPR 2034.

MHADA’s Mumbai Building Repairs and Reconstruction Board has appointed a consortium comprising Bhagirathi Housing Pvt Ltd and Mathi Developers Pvt Ltd to undertake the development.

The project encompasses around 8,001 residential and non-residential occupants, along with approximately 800 landowners. The plan includes rehabilitation of eligible occupants and the creation of new housing, with earlier project documents providing for around 4,500 additional residential units.

The redevelopment also includes infrastructure improvements within the densely built precinct. Proposed works include changes to internal roads and improved connectivity across the cluster.

MHADA has also approved financial support for eligible occupants during the transition, including advance rent and shifting assistance.

Construction is expected to begin around Diwali 2026, according to recent reports.

The agreement marks a key administrative milestone for one of South Mumbai’s largest cluster redevelopment projects, with the focus now shifting towards rehabilitation, construction and infrastructure execution.
