Second FIR lodged in sequential fall of flat roofs in Chintels Paradiso
According to an official, the Gurugram police filed a second FIR in the incident involving the partial collapse of a high-rise building here on February 13, booking all managing directors of the realty firm Chintel India and its group and associate companies, as well as several others.
On February 10, an incident involving the sequential collapse of flat roofs from the sixth to ground floor in the 18-story tower of the Chintel Paradiso Housing Complex in Gurugram’s sector 109 resulted in the death of two women living in two lower floor flats and critical injuries to a man.
The accused named in the FIR included the firm’s MD Ashok Solomon, as well as Ajay Sahni, Kunwar Khaliqe Ahmad, Arvind Kumar Gupta, and Asish Jaiswal, who were all in charge of the firm’s various group and associate companies, according to the official.
The firms whose MDs were booked included Chintels India ltd, Chintel Export Pvt Ltd, Intels India Pvt Ltd, Rajkiran Pvt Ltd, and Bhayana Builders, as well as various architects, structural engineers, and contractors involved in the design and construction of the high-rise, according to the official.
The second FIR was filed in response to a complaint filed by Gurugram district’s Town and Country Planner R S Bath, who recommended that more people be named as defendants in the case following a preliminary investigation conducted by him.
“The mishap demonstrated that the structural engineer’s, proof consultant’s, and contractor’s work was untrustworthy and fraudulent. Gurugram Commissioner of Police K K Rao stated that the FIR was filed based on the recommendation of the relevant authority, and that police would conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.
Residents of the building, on the other hand, expressed dissatisfaction with the registration of the second FIR and demanded that the Chintel group executives and government officials involved in providing clearances and occupation certificates for the project be charged under IPC section 302 for murder.
At a meeting on February 13, representatives from 50 group housing societies demanded that IIT Delhi conduct structural audits on all societies in New Gurgaon.
The body of the second woman who died in the February 10 mishap, Sunita Shrivastava, was recovered from under the debris by rescuers on February 12 night, more than 60 hours after the incident.
Sunita Shrivastava’s husband, A K Shrivastava, an IRS officer and the managing director of Central Warehousing Corporation, suffered critical injuries and was rescued from beneath the rubble on February 11 after 16 hours of work.
Shortly after the incident, the body of the first woman, Rekha Bhardwaj, was discovered.
