Over 10,000 unlawful documents will be checked by a Pune collector.
The Maharashtra Prevention of Fragmentation and Consolidation of Holdings Act requires the District Collector’s office to review the mutation entries of the 10,000 property papers registered in contravention of the act.
The registration department has prosecuted 44 officers for fraudulently registering 10,561 papers in violation of the Real Estate Regulatory Authority Act and the Maharashtra Prevention of Fragmentation and Consolidation of Holdings Act.
According to an official, 70% of the 10,000 or so documents filed illegally are in breach of the RERA, while 30% are in violation of the Fragmentation Act. According to the officials, people who violate the RERA act may face prosecution from local authorities as well as the RERA authority, but the fragmentation act will be reviewed.
“First, we’ll see if these documents have all of the mutation entries filled in. As there is a review system in place, necessary action would be taken,” Deshmukh told TOI on April 8. The collector stated that he will make a decision after reviewing the entries on the cancellation of these mutation entries.
Balasaheb Thorat, the Revenue Minister, had previously told TOI that he would meet with revenue officials to discuss the status of the documents that had been registered unlawfully, as well as the future of such properties.
