MHADA to Complete Structural Audit of 1,000 Cessed Buildings in Mumbai by March 2025
The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) is set to conduct a structural audit of 1,000 cessed buildings in Mumbai by March 2025 as part of the Maharashtra government’s 100-day action plan.
MHADA Vice President and CEO, Sanjeev Jaiswal, has directed officials to expedite the process to ensure the audit is completed on time.
In a recent review meeting, which assessed various projects under the Mumbai Building Repairs and Reconstruction Board, Jaiswal highlighted the importance of these audits in evaluating the safety and redevelopment needs of aging structures.
He also instructed officials to appoint structural consultants and plan for the audit of approximately 13,000 cessed buildings over the next year. As part of the government’s initiative, audits of 500 buildings are planned, with 171 already completed and reports received for 32 structures.
Additionally, Jaiswal has mandated the completion of a biometric survey of 20,000 commercial unit holders in transit camps by March, aligning with the state’s directive for 2,000 units.
Officials have also been tasked with categorizing transit camp occupants into A, B, and C groups by March 2025, following the government resolution dated September 13, 2019.
Furthermore, Jaiswal instructed executive engineers to issue notices under Section 79(A)(1)(A) for all 13,000 cessed buildings under the Mumbai Board’s jurisdiction. He also urged officials to accelerate the redevelopment process for properties acquired under Section 91(A).
These initiatives aim to streamline the management of cessed buildings in Mumbai, facilitate timely redevelopment, and enhance living conditions for residents.
