Maharashtra ranks at the top in LEED-certified spaces in India – USGBC report.

On 18 June 2019, the US Green Building Council (USGBC) issued the list of India’s Top 10 LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) states – the most widely used green building rating system in the world. The list was published for the second year in India and as on 31 December 2018 it ranks states with the cumulative GSF (Gross Sq Ft) of LEED-certified space.

Maharashtra ranks at the top of the list of mapped states, followed by Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Haryana. More than 840 million Indians live in the top ten LEED states, and together, including more than 475 million sq.ft of LEED-certified area.

Gopalakrishnan Padmanabhan, managing director, South-east Asia and the Middle East, USGBC and Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI), said: “India is the leader in green buildings and continues to show year-over-year development.

Further, he added, several government agencies and state governments have begun allowing incentives around LEED and businesses, educational institutions and non-profits, across every sector in India, are committing to LEED.
