The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has brought an action against the office bearers of a private company which has reportedly duped a sum amount of Rs 53 crore of more than 310 investors.
One of these investors from Ghatkopar came to Parksite Police on July 11, for lodging a complaint against Mira Door Construction Pvt Ltd, the case has been transferred to the EOW after that.
The two accused, Vijay Pawar and Smita Rathor, told investors that they were building residential plot in Shahpur Taluka, Thane, on a 28-acre land off the Mumbai Nashik highway. They said they need funding to finish the project and pledged 21% as a return to their investments. They also informed them they would give the investors land plots in Thane if they did not return the money, the police said.
In 2015, the business started fundraising by providing regular interest but had stopped paying interest after 2017. Investor requesting their money to be refunded was a waste and then they had to lodge a complaint.
Prakash Bagal, Inspector of the EOW, said that “We have reviewed all the records in the first place and our inquiry is now underway.” A further source added that the Maharashtra Protection of Interest of Depositors Act (1999) is also been invoked.
