In one month, the Nashik civic body collects Rs 11 crore from property tax defaulters.
NASHIK: The Nashik Municipal Corporation’s (NMC) decision to play the drums in front of large property tax defaulters’ houses is yielding positive results, with the civic body collecting Rs 11 crore in pending property tax from the defaulters in the last month.
NMC has been sending teams to big defaulters’ homes and commercial establishments at regular intervals to collect pending property tax dues. While the NMC set a target of Rs 150 crore for the current fiscal year, it has only received Rs 115 crore so far.
“We have begun a campaign against higher taxes defaulters who owe more than Rs 1 lakh,” authorities claim. We’ve been banging on the drums in front of their homes.”
“As a result of this drive, we have received approximately Rs 11 crore from defaulters,” NMC authorities said.
The civic body has posted a list of defaulters on its official website and has asked them to pay their debts as soon as possible. These 600 defaulters owe the civic body more than Rs 50 crore, with amounts ranging from Rs 1 lakh to more than Rs 20 lakh. Despite several notices, the dues have not been paid for several years.
The list of defaulters includes information such as the property tax index number, the defaulters’ names and complete addresses, the current tax, and total dues. According to an NMC official, another list of defaulters will be made public soon. The NMC collected Rs 150 crore in property tax in 2021-22, the highest amount collected by the civic body since its inception.
