On August 23, the MCG sealed two properties for non-payment of property taxes of around Rs 22 lakh. The first property is located in Sector 32, with dues of Rs 12.07 lakh, the second in Sector 49, with dues of Rs 10 lakh, officials have stated.

The sealing process follows the orders of MCG Commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh to the Zonal Taxation Officers to seal at least 10 properties that have not cleared the tax dues.

“We have been told to seal at least 8 to 10 properties in a week so that property tax defaulters pay their outstanding sum. The charges that the MCG is yet to collect are more than Rs 500 crore and we will soon start auctioning these assets,” said Dinesh Kumar, Zonal Taxation Officer-2, MCG.

Officials of the MCG said that the property they are sealing has been liable to taxes since 2010. A minimum of 1,500 property owners has not yet paid their taxes. In fact, the civic body has set up a list of 28 properties to be auctioned.

On August 18, the Haryana Government declared fresh deadlines for clearing property taxes. The owners who have dues since financial 2010-11 will be granted a one-time 25% rebate if they clear their dues by October 31 up to 2019-20 financial year.

“The 25% rebate will only be issued for the period from 2010 to 2017,” said the official. This deadline was previously on 31 August 2020.
