Bengaluru Municipal Corporation elects to fine illegal constructions.
The government is set to enforce a law to regulate unauthorized building construction in Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) limits by penalizing those who breach the construction norms with a fine.
On February 18, the Government tabled in the assembly the Karnataka Municipal Corporations (Amendment) Bill 2020. The bill aims to penalize those who create or renovate any building or any portion of a building without securing the BBMP’s approval or in violation of the requirements stated in the permits. Violators will each year be required to pay a fine equivalent to property tax in the relation of the floor area of unauthorized development or violation as long as it remains unlawful.
The bill further aims to charge fees and annual track rent on cables like optical fibre cables placed under BBMP limits. The government also proposed the National Law School of India (Amendment) Bill to reserve 25 per cent seats for Karnataka students at the National Law School University of India (NLSUI), Bengaluru. Students who have studied for at least 10 years before the qualifying examination at any accredited educational institution in the state are entitled to pursue reservation in NLSUI admissions.
The government also proposed the Karnataka Lokayukta (Amendment) Bill, which intends to permit the Lokayukta to assign or transfer cases or grievances to any of the two Upa Lokayuktas in case the Lokayukta cannot handle the case.
During the budget session starting March 2 all these bills will be taken up for approval.
