Fire safety is a compulsory parameter to get approval for any housing society or commercial building. On Monday, Officials claimed that nearly 99% of the Housing societies in Maharashtra have not done their fire audits.
Sitaram Rane (Maharashtra State Co-Operative Housing Federation chairman) said “The housing societies were taking these essential safety requirements lightly.”
Further, he explained that the fire audit is mandatory and approx 99% of the housing societies in the state, did not do the fire audit.
Last week in a devastating fire at the four-story building in Gujarat’s Surat district, 22 students were killed.
Rane said that the housing societies should be aware of safety rules and prevent the occurrence, referring to the deaths of three sanitation workers from suffocation during the cleaning of a septic tank in a complex earlier this month.
He said there will be a three-day home exhibition on Friday in Thane to raise awareness about different topics and some professional services that residential societies can benefit.
